September 2, 2004 Indianapolis Motor Speedway One of the most well-known of the attractions in Indianapolis is the Speedway. A photo of the visitor center / museum is below. |

The "Pagoda" (in the background) is a design that has been around for most of the history of the track. | |||
The track is called "The Brickyard" because at one time it was paved with bricks. The track was eventually resurfaced. Now only a three-foot wide section of bricks remain -- at the start/finish line. The bricks to the right were taken from the track when it was being resurfaced. | |||
Speaking of resurfacing, they were doing that while I was there (see below) so we did not get to go out on the track. Below is a view from one of the infield stands -- coming out of turn 1. |

In the museum, they have many cars which have run at Indy, like these -- some of A.J. Foyt's cars. |

They also have some old cars like those below. I especially like the Cadillac to the right. | |||
