Motor Speedway ~ Kentucky | ~|||
September 1, 2004 Indianapolis, Indiana Thanks to a NetSAAver fare on American Airlines, I took a trip to Indiana and Kentucky. Indianapolis was my first stop. They have a "Canal Walk" -- a very nicely landscaped area along a man-made canal. It's popular with walkers and joggers and has apartments and shops along the way. I entered near the memorial to the USS Indianapolis (to the right). From the USS Indianapolis site, "At 12:14 a.m. on July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in the Philippine Sea and sank in 12 minutes. Of 1,196 men on board, approximately 300 went down with the ship. The remainder, about 900 men, were left floating in shark-infested waters with no lifeboats and most with no food or water. The ship was never missed, and by the time the survivors were spotted by accident four days later only 316 men were still alive."
These are pictures from the Canal Walk.
September 2, 2004 Indianapolis Zoo I also visited the Indianapolis Zoo. I have visited so many zoos that I don't see too much original. However, here are a few photos from my visit. Below are some of their penguins. |

I saw a lot of Butterflies on my trip. Some in exhibits, but some just flying around like this one.
Two of the other animals I saw at the zoo were a lazy Kodiak Bear (but I would not want to tell him I thought he was lazy) and a baby Sea Lion (only about 4 months old).
